Hi,
Firstly let me apologise if this is a repeated post, but I couldn't find a consolidated and current view with regards to using LoadRunner v11.52 to record on 64-bit and there's seems to be some confusion around this (especially for me!).
The LoadRunner v11.50 installation guide says that the VuGen installation is supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit OS's.
The issue for me arose with the note that follows that states the following:
Note: VuGen recording is not supported on 64-bit applications. You can record 32-bit applications on 64-bit operating systems.
Having read this note several times and had several other people do the same, we believe we now understand what it means but would really appreciate if somebody from HP could confirm or correct us.
Our understanding is that the above note relates to the local machine where LoadRunner is installed and has nothing to do with the AUT. The 'application' mentioned in the note is in fact whatever is being used to enable the recording. In our case, I understand this to be the Internet Explorer instance installed locally which we're using to access the AUT.
Therefore if the local machine is running a 64-bit OS, then VuGen recording is only supported when using a 32-bit version of Internet Explorer and not on a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer.
This is totally independent of the AUT (which for us happens to comprise 64-bit SAP applications running on a 64-bit AIX OS).
I couldn't see how the architecture/configuration of the AUT would affect LoadRunner capturing traffic and the above theory now makes more sense than reading it as not being able to record a 64-bit AUT (I would have thought most large systems would be running a 64-bit architecture nowadays).
As mentioned, I'd really appreciate if somebody could confirm the above.
Regards,
Amit
